Giant Alligator Snapping Turtle

Check out the largest freshwater turtle in North America, the Alligator snapping turtle.

The best way to identify one of these turtles is by their three large ridges on their carapace (top of the turtle shell)
The plastron (bottom of the shell) on this snapper is smaller than the other turtles. Males have a slightly concave (curving in) shell and
the females have a slightly convex(curving out) shell.

Males also have a larger tail than the females.
