Oasis Turtle Ramp Review

In this article, we will be taking a closer look at the Kordon Oasis Turtle Ramp and reviewing the quality of their ramps in comparison to other ramps available on the market.

Why does your turtle need the Kordon Oasis Turtle Ramp? Even aquatic turtles need to dry off and these ramps provide that option for the turtles to easily get out.

They come in 3 different sizes so can be used for a wide range of aquatic turtles.

Oasis Turtle Ramp Review

As a pet owner, you want your turtle to be happy and comfortable in their homes. The Oasis Turtle Ramp is a great way to make a natural instinct feel natural, even in an aquarium.

Every turtle enclosure should have a good basking spot; a place for them to dry off and warm up. You can buy one or you can try your luck with some of these DIY basking platform ideas.

Since turtles are cold-blooded, they cannot internally control their body temperature. Because of this, it is vital to their health to absorb some light whether it be naturally through UV rays or under a UVB light.

See our water turtle setup guide for more guidance.

What Makes A Good Turtle Ramp?

If you’re shopping around and aren’t too sure what qualities you should be looking for, there are some criteria that make some turtle ramps better than others.

You might see some made of wood, resin, acrylic, and even coconut husk. It depends on where you look and what you prefer for the aesthetics of your turtle aquarium.

When it comes to material, first and foremost, you want something sturdy enough to carry the weight of your turtle and its movements. Some ramps are made of flimsy material, which can bend or break under the weight of your turtle when they try to get on.

Another thing you want to make sure to consider when you’re shopping around is whether or not it is easy to clean. A ramp that can be easily removed, cleaned, and reinstalled will save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

When it comes to how to install your ramp, your options include floating basking points, suction cup ramps, and also platforms that will sit in your aquarium.

We recommend the suction cup option because it will keep things in place and looks a lot neater in your tank. It also allows more personalized customization on where or what level you want your ramp to be at in your tank.

You also will want something that is submersible, with a material that won’t rot or mold from always being damp or wet. Submersible ramps will get your turtle in and out of the water conveniently and safely to and from their basking spot.

If your turtle doesn’t need water like if you have a tortoise or a box turtle, this ramp could still be useful to them. Giving them a choice of different levels, meaning different distances from the light can allow them to properly regulate their body temperature at the level that suits them.

If a ramp is made of a material that is not naturally grippy, you should make sure that whatever is used for traction won’t mold from the water or ruin under the heat of the UVB lamp. A rubberized traction tape is a good option for non-slip ramps.

Because of the dark-colored grip tape, these ramps will also provide your turtle with some shade underneath the whole structure. This ramp gives your turtle options for whatever it is feeling like at any given moment.

The Oasis Turtle Ramp

The Oasis Turtle ramp is a well-rounded ramp that is made of sturdy, easy-to-clean materials that will allow comfortable movements with its non-slip rubberized traction tape onto a sturdy platform that can handle any amount of basking your turtle might need!

This turtle ramp fulfills all the basic requirements needed for turtle lovers who want a convenient basking spot for their pet. It also will look good in their tank with its dark-colored traction tape and minimal, easy-to-install suction cups.

Once you find a good quality brand of ramps, you want to make sure they have good sizing options for various types of turtles. A good brand will cater to all turtle sizes and needs.

Oasis Turtle Ramps come in small, medium, and large sizes in order to fit the needs of your turtle, regardless of their weight and size! You can easily find these ramps online as well whether through their website or Amazon!

We do recommend that you size up a little bit on your ramp, if possible. It will depend on your turtle’s width, so just make sure they can comfortably maneuver the ramp with a little extra room.

When choosing the size of your turtle ramp, you want to compare the size of it to the dimensions of your tank. Make sure your turtle has plenty of swimming room with the ramp in the tank as well.

You want them to have room to climb up and jump off their ramp as well. So do think ahead and consider what size will work with both your tank and the size of your turtle for optimal functionality.

Small Oasis Turtle Ramp Product Overview

If your turtle is on the smaller size, Kordon’s Oasis Turtle Ramp in the size Small should be perfect for your little friend.

This ramp can completely handle a small turtle that is up to 4 inches long. We recommend you buy this size for a turtle with a shell width of 2.5 inches for full comfort.

Always size up if you think your turtle will need more walking space for their shell to comfortably fit on the ramp. It’s better to have more space than less.

This specific ramp in this size is 8 x 4 x 2.5 inches and weighs 8 Ounces. This will fit best in tanks that are 20 to 50 gallons in size.

This ramp is perfect for turtles that are on the smaller side like baby turtles or turtles that typically stay under 4 inches like musk turtles, bog turtles, and the Mississippi Mud Turtle.

Medium Oasis Turtle Ramp

This mid-sized ramp will be 12 x 6.5 x 3.5 inches and the item itself weighs 8 Ounces. This ramp will fit a tank size from 30 to 80 gallons while still leaving plenty of swimming room for your turtle.

It can handle the weight of a turtle that is around 4 to 6 inches long, as long as its shell width is around 3.5 inches or less. Again, you should try to leave some room for your turtle to waddle on it, this will give them the space to comfortably maneuver on and off their ramp.

This ramp is perfect for smaller turtle species such as mud turtles, musk turtles, diamondback terrapins, some box turtles, young red-eared sliders, Reeves turtles, and even wood turtles. This will be a very comfortable ramp for baby turtles and some juvenile sizes.

Large Oasis Turtle Ramp

This is the largest size available from Oasis, which comes in 16 x 11 x 4.5 inches and weighs in at 1 pound. This ramp has large suction cups to hold heavier turtles that have the width of about 4.5 inches.

This ramp will be great for anyone who has more than one turtle in their tank. It can comfortably fit two small turtles on it and can also work for any of the previously mentioned turtles for the medium size.

Rest assured that your larger turtles can climb and bask on this ramp without the worry of them falling off. The stronger suction cups are there to keep the ramp in place and keep your turtle safe and make it easier to clean your tank.

You can see how a larger turtle sits on the platform and is comfortable in the above video.

If your tank is larger than 75 gallons, your turtle will benefit from a larger swimming area. If you have a turtle that is around this size and your tank is the right size, this could be the turtle ramp for you.

How to Install Your Turtle Ramp

This is probably the simplest and possibly the greatest part about the Oasis Turtle Ramps! The suction cups make it easy for owners to just reach in, plop the ramp off, clean it, then put it right back where it was in the first place.

To install it, you simply remove all the packaging from the product, then wet the ready-to-stick suction cups before finally sticking it to the wall of the aquarium or terrarium at your desired level.

Just make sure the area you’re sticking it to is also clean.

Make sure you submerge the lower ramp into the water until it is about an inch or two above your substrate if you have any. This will give your turtle space to swim and enough of the ramp to climb up comfortably.

Pros and Cons

The best features of the Oasis Turtle Ramps are the fact that it’s made of a stable, cleanable acrylic that will not move around due to the sturdiness of the material and strong suction cups.

It’s easy to install and will take up minimal space in your tank while playing an important role in your turtle’s health.

This turtle ramp is a two-in-one with the ramp and extra side ramp for basking rather than only being a single-laned ramp like most of them are on the market.

Kordon created a variation of sizes since there are so many species of turtles. They have 3 specific sizes so make sure you check out their dimensions on which will best suit your turtle.

One thing you’ll have to consider is just how large your turtle will grow. Some of them can grow to be very huge so you need to consider the species and what their maximum size will be.

For the turtles that grow very large, you might not find the right size between the three available sizes on Kordon’s Oasis Ramp line.

When it comes to the cons of this product, the only other thing you’ll want to look out for is the grippy material on the ramps. It won’t mold as other traction tape materials might on other ramps available, but there are some cases of the traction tape wearing away over long-term use. Although, it does take a while for this to happen.

The Verdict

As mentioned above the ramp is great for many turtle species, but size is something that needs to be considered before purchasing.

  • The small will handle a turtle up to 4 inches long and 2.5 inches wide.
  • The medium handles turtles from 4 to 6 inches long and 3.5 inches wide.
  • Lastly the large handles turtles from 6 to 10 inches and up to 4.5 inches wide.

Other benefits include the ease of installation and removal.

If you’re in the market for a turtle ramp, Oasis is a good option. Just make sure the size is relevant to your turtle before buying.
