I went to the pet store and there are 3 tanks
of different feeder fish, some are grey, some
are small and yellow and some are orange and
fat. They are sold as feeders, but they don\'t look to heathy (some are dead floating in the tank with their buddies) Are feeder fish fragile? how many to begin with? Which ones are appropriate for small painteds? Are they heathy, Do they have diseases that could transfer to turtles? Please tell me if you know anthing about this!

Basically, the type of fish varies on the size of your turtle...for example-a small hatchling turtle would eat small guppies whereas a larger turtle would eat the larger goldfish.
My suggestion is not to feed the turtles feeder fish that don\'t look healthy. I know they eat carrion (dead stuff) in the wild, but why feed them that in captivity? It\'s just gross.
I\'d go to another pet store where the fish look healthier.
