I have a red eared slider who is about 10-15 years old. The past few weeks he has become VERY active and has gotten out of his aquarium more than once (very dangerous, we put a weight on the roof to keep him in now). This is unusual and he hasn\'t done this in past years.

Anyone have any ideas why he is so active?

Here is what I have tried fixing:

Not enough food (escaping to find food). He is on turtle pellets (different types) and I give him a feeder goldfish a day or so (this is new this year).

Activity. I have been letting him out for walks more often than normal.

Filter. I wondered if the filter was driving him crazy so I took it out.

Nothing seems to help. Have any ideas?
