Hello,

We were in a pet store today and they had a lot of slider turtles for sale. All of the turtles\' shells looked strange to me. The middle of their shells looked grey, as if they were worn. The rest of their shells looked a dull green. I asked the owner why their shells looked like that, he said they just hatched about a week ago. I decided not to buy any, because I wasn\'t sure if they were sick turtles or not.

I\'m pretty new to caring for turtles, we have two sliders at home, and their shells look like a nice healthy green.

Do you think those turtles at the store had problems with their shells? Or do newly hatched turtles look like their shells have been \"erased\" with a pencil? LOL

thanks!

Debbie

Thanks! Yes, they had lights on them. I was told to only have the light on about three hours a day. Should they be on all day and night?
