I just found this turtle in the middle of a 4 lane highway this afternoon. I have no idea what it is. I did find a similar turtle on this message board, so I'll try and attach that picture. This turtle has a smooth shell, though it is shedding at the time. He/she is about 12" in length, and has black skin.Image[/img]

I actually have 6 small red eared sliders, and this guy/gal looks nothing like them. Of course I don't know what an old big one would like like. This one has no red on it's head, in fact there is no color at all on it's head. I may have to go in search of some pics of older sliders. :)

What I have is an Eastern Red-bellied turtle. I have hunted all night on line trying to find out what this guy is. Thanks to those who helped.

welcome to the board :)

looks like a YBS or a cooter to me..it still has the yellow marking so if it had something red it wouldn't be gone by now yet..maybe it's a red-bellied turtle as u found out too..

so what r u planning to do with it?

I'll be taking the big guy to my in-laws summer house to be set free on their property, which is on a river. He should be very comfy there:-)
