When I got my 2 RESs I had a close look at them and found out they were both males. Well now it seems like one of them is female and the other male. How can I tell which sex they are. I\'ve read that the male\'s tail is longer and so are the claws. But one turtle is quite a bit larger than the other. Any other way I can check, other than going to a vet?

Thanks

How old are they? Its really hard to sex red ear sliders when they are young. My are about a year or so old, and I still can\'t really tell. I have a good guess, but I\'m not completely sure. Some of the more senior members will be able to tell you how to sex them a bit better than i\'d be able to.

About the only way to tell is by their tails, the poop hole will be closer to the shell in females and closer to the tip of the tail in males, this is not easy for me cause one of my turtles has a cut tail, and also they are still very young, I think that maybe when they are the size of an adult\'s hand, then you should be able to tell better.
