We have had our turtle for 2 days and already the water is cloudy. We have a filter. Could it need changed already? Also, he tends to draw in his left arm only and sit on the bottom of the water. Is there anything wrong with him? Could he be hurt or is he just doing this because it makes him feel safe? We don\'t have a thermometer on his tank yet we are going to get one today. He seems to need his pellets broken up into small pieces to be able to eat them. When we put the food in he goes to sleep for about 15-20 minutes before he will go after it. Any suggestions would be helpful. We think he is about 2-3 months old. Thanks.

My turtles tend to sleep in the water sometimes, I catch them with their eyes closed, they can go without coming up to breath for quite a while so don\'t worry, if the water is too cold they may start to go into partial hibernation, which if he were outside, would be bad because they stop eating and slow down until they go to sleep, check the water temperature with a regular house thermometer to check that the water is between 72* and 78*, remember that they are cold blooded and the ambient temperature is what decides what their body temperature will be, turtles and other cold blooded reptiles will bask in the sun to get their blood temperature up so they can have the energy to move around and also to be able to process calcium for their bones, something to do with vitamin D3.

welcome to the board:)
seems ur turtle already built a personality for him/herself and strange habits too..is it a hatchling? is he/she using the other hand for other things? if everything is normal then maybe that\'s the way it directs itself..
