Did you just get him? If you did he\'s probably just getting used to his new tank. If not it may be a sign of something more serious...how is his breathing, are his eyes swollen, ect? Are there any other symptoms than just \'sleeping\'?

Also, keep in mind that there is not much to do in a tank, you have to keep up their interest, I put feeder fish in there with them, they are both food and exercise equipment:D, they keep my turtles busy by being chased, ofcourse, once they get eaten, so much for exercise:D:D, feeder guppies are not that expensive they cost me about 12 cents US, they are not that bad, they also let you know if you forgot to change the water(they\'ll die, happened to me:()

Keep offering food, different foods, like shrimp cocktail(cooked) or dried shrimp, cooked chicken, maybe some fishflakes, my turtles like those. Let her eat by herself, she may be still in shock about her surroundings, they can go for a few weeks without eating (read it somewhere, I\'ll post the page), just keep an eye out for coughing or sneezing with liquid coming out of the nose, could be a respiratory infection.

Check this page for tips on what to look for:
http://www.turtlecare.net/health.htm

This is from that same page:

If Your Turtle Will Not Eat
===========================

* Is the turtle kept warm enough? If turtles get too cool, they
will stop eating.

* Does the turtle like the food you offer? Try out different foods.
Some turtles can be very finicky eaters, especially in the
beginning. And they have definite likes and dislikes.
Most turtles will eventually take small earthworms
that are wiggling in front of their nose. Start feeding favorite
foods, then slowly introduce other items.

* Is your turtle exposed to too much stress? This is often a cause
in new animals.Stress can be caused by handling, travelling, tank
mates. New turtles will often not eat properly for several weeks.
Be patient and keep trying.

* Is your turtle healthy? Not eating can be a symptom of other
problems. If your turtle has been eating well and suddenly stops,
a health problem is a likely reason. Take a fecal sample to your
veterinarian. (Fecal samples need to be no older than 4 hours, and
you need to store them in water in the refrigerator.)

* Don\'t panic! A turtle can go without food for weeks, even months,
and when it feels well again, it will eat again.
See a veterinarian, if you thing you are doing everything right, and the
animal does not eat for more than 2 weeks.

I hope that helps you:D

My Fred likes to sleep occasionally, and since my turtle is not quite the same as the other peoples i\'ll ask this, Do you have a heater? and is he still eating.

I keep fred in a huge tank with a variety of fresh water tropical fish.

This will keep him on his \'feet\' and if hungry he can help himself. This will provide for some entertainment. Those with a week stomache dont look or i suggest not.

I still feed him (out of the tank) twice a day and this is organised time (before and after work). So he knows when to expect food. This isn\'t so important in my set up but when only relying on you just remember how hungry you are around the 10-12 hour mark...

There is no better food for turtles than those who catch it themselves. Also as this is one of their main instincts it does contribute to their happiness and general wellbeing.

My turtle is supposed to hibinate for 6months of the year (winter) so by heating the water and with regular light he doesnt but i find over this time he still gets slightly lazy.

I guess by trying to keep their habitate natural it should provide intrest.

Since my turtle is a river turtle he requires water. So we have to notice how much time he spends out of water. If He is basking alot i can have a guess that he might be develping a fungle infection.

If this is so you will find that Medication for Fish and Reptiles can all be used for turtles (just check with the petshop). But as a rule the fungal aid will be a fish medication that you just put the required amount in the bathing water.

Anyways let me know how it turns out

Ciao
