I just got a canister filter to use with my 40 gal. breeder tank. It came with a course sponge in the lower basket, charcoal in the middle basket and fine floss in the upper basket. I purchased Bio-Rings but I am not sure which basket they should go into. The filter is a Cascade 1000 rated for 100 gal. I also got a carbon & zeolite pack for ammonia removal. Is ther anything else I should get?

Well, this is what I found so far. I hope it helps you.

It looks like it goes where it is marked on the picture with (*2) the black sponge.

canister filters are powerful! once I get the money, I\'m replacing my undergravel filter with a canister one. I need a filter to stop algae.

Filters don\'t stop algae unless you get one that has a UV sterilizer, which is more expensive.
