Oh, one more thing. The man at Petsmart told me to have the water go only about 2 inches above the gravel on the bottem of my tank. Right now, my RES is just a baby. Is this the right amount of water or should it be deeper?

The minimum depth is a bit deeper than the length of your turtle\'s shell (you want him to be able to right himself if he tips over). You can make it deeper, however--they like to swim (if you go a lot deeper, do it gradually). Just be sure he has a good basking area with proper lighting and some places to rest on (plastic plants are good for this purpose).

BTW, you might want to get rid of the gravel. It collects debris and becomes smelly. There\'s also a chance your turtle could eat it and become impacted. Smooth river rocks larger than his head so he can\'t eat them are better.
