I am trying to get my turtles, especially the older RES, to try new foods and like them.
The only things I can get him to eat other than the pellets and meat (shrimp, rosie reds, etc) is romaine lettuce and an occasional carrot.
I\'ve tried coating the food in sardines but that hasn\'t worked.
Is there anything else I could try? Would it be bad if I stopped feeding my turtles for a few days until they\'ve tried something new?

If they\'re healthy and have been well-fed, it won\'t hurt your turtles to withhold food for a few days so they will be hungry enough to try to new food you\'re introducing to them. In the wild, turtles don\'t always get to eat every day, and they are able to go without quite easily.
