I just got two slider turtles as a gift so I do not have a filter or anything. What kind of water is best to use until I get a filter? What kind of filter should I get?

How big are your turtles (shells lengthwise)? How big is your tank?

Plain tap water should be OK to use. If it`s from a public water system and it`s been treated with chlorine and chloramines, add a dechlorinator (like Reptisafe, Amquel, etc.)to the water to take them out.

The filter depends on the size of your tank. In general, the filter you get should be rated for 3X the size of your tank. Even with a filter, however, you will need to dechlorinate (if necessary) and change the water regularly. There are by-products from turtle waste and uneaten food that a filter cannot pick up.
