Your right that your other turtle knows that his buddy is gone. And he is probley a little depressed. I think you need to see a vet about the not eating though, it is probley just a phase because he is depressed. Need any more help Email me... [email protected] Let me know it is about turtles.

Sorry to hear about your turtle. It would be good to clean out the tank really well (mild bleach solution and rinse VERY well many times) in case what the deceased turtle had was contagious. And keep an eye out for any symptoms your remaining turtle may show and bring it to a vet if necessary.

Don`t just assume there aren`t--look. Try http://www.arav.org/USMembers.htm
http://www.anapsid.org/vets/index.html#vetlisst
http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/vetlisting.htm

If there absolutely isn`t one relatively near you, try http://www.anapsid.org/vets/cantfind.html for other ideas on where to look.

It`s good to be prepared and know of a qualified herp vet just in case you ever need one.

I have been raising turtles for some time, and at first I started with only babies, which is a bad idea if you you don\'t know what your doing. Thier first winter is VERRRRY hard to get them through. I had many turtles die on me over the past years in teh winter. The best I dea I think, is to get the turtle a new buddy, maybe one a little bit bigger so he can mimic that turtle and he will be happy in no time!

In order to get it to eat you can also try raising the water temp a bit. Speeding up the metabolism worked when my eastern painted hatchling was not eating.

Good Luck!
