I just want to let everyone know that I came home from the grocery store last night and when I looked at my turtles tank I noticed humidity inside of the glass thermometer in the tank. When I examined it closer I noticed it was broken at the bottom where all of the mercury balls sit. Upon examining the bottom of my tank there were mercury balls all in it.

I hastily cleaned out my tank and to say the least, will never own another glass thermometer again. And Georgeta and Marcel(my turtles) are O.K. and being them selves, no harm done!thank goodness!

Hopefully they didn\'t eat any of the balls. I also have glass thermometers but they are intact. I\'ll keep my eye out. Thanks for the notice.

If it was a thermometer meant for aquariums, I don\'t think the balls were made of mercury (hasn\'t mercury been banned for use in thermometers for a few years now?). Anyway, glad to hear your turtles are OK and that they didn\'t get hurt on any broken glass or other substance.
