Some people have used small plastic containers turned upside down and held down with a rock.

I made my basking area using the rocks in the bottom of the tank but piling them to form like a mountain on one side of the aquarium, then i placed some rocks on topo if it and it looks fine.

I used several pieces of a plexy glass material, glued some rocks on the ramp and basking area with aquarium glue and then glued the whole ramp to the side of the aquarium. works great.

I have large rocks stacked. I was lucky to find one that was flat on top. They have floating basking areas that can be suction cupped to the side of the aquarium.
