My RES has started this past week to bite his shell. What he does is to turn his head, left or right, and then try to bite the side of his shell. There is a loud noise that accompanies this motion, and it sounds he is making contact with his shell. He does it five or six times in a row outside of the water before stopping.

Is this normal? Is there something wrong with him?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I\'ve watched my turtle carefully, and he\'s not actually biting his shell. He\'s just turning his shell and snapping.

He seems to be getting adequate food, but I have a theory that he only does it when he\'s hungry and wants attention.

I\'ve changed the water and cleaned his shell already. Didn\'t seem to help.

Any other suggestions/ideas please let me know. Thanks again for the replies.
