We found 2 babies that just hatched out in our back yard. I would have left them alone but it is darn cool at night in northern WI and I feared they would not survive. My question is how in the world did they survive the winter? They were only 4 inches deep! We get frost down past 12 inches around here. I read that in warmer states they winter over, but did not find anything about it in WI. It looked as if the rest of the babies hatched last summer, just these 2 and one dead did not. They were very cold when we found them and have really livened up now. Still have not eaten, we are trying chopping everything up now (yuck!). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

turtles hibernate in the winter like bears do.
