hey ya\'ll .. me and my brother just got a turtle... she\'s a RES.. we are like really new to this and had questions. do turtles need constant watch? will turtles die if they are on their backs? i ask this because our turtle moves around alot in her tank.(we still have one of those little plastic tanks, but we are going to get a bigger and better one fer her.) she leans on da walls of the tank and ends up sliding to the sides sometimes hitting her face in the corner and im afraid that she might tip herself over and me or my bro might not be home... if you guys can help answer my questions that would be great.. thanx

If you have her in one of those plastic bowls with the palm tree, you need to get something else immediately! Or is she in one of those critter keeper things? They need soooo much more than that. They need lights, heat, a basking area, etc. They can definately flip over and not be able to right themselves if the water isn\'t deep enough. Please look at the care sheets to find out exactly what you need...I am sure there will be more posts to follow and everyone here has really good advice. I am a newbie also and I will leave the nitty gritty to the experts!! Good luck

The turtle can\'t breathe on it\'s back. Petunia89 is right you need a complete set-up right away. Turtles can live 30-50 years and need the proper habitat to prevent them from becoming ill and dying. I will post some links to check out. I purchased mine from a street vendor with no instructions. I immediately went online to get info. You can always go to google like I did and put in red ear slider. You will get many sites. Look through them, some will have differing info. Take all the info and make decisions based on it collectively. It is VERY IMPORTANT you research your new pet.
The next post will have the links for you.

That last one was a link to google for RES turtle care. I could go on and on, but you can do the research. These are some of the sites I have saved to come back and reference later for questions I have. If I dont find the answers I usually end up here posting a question. Good luck, they take some money and work, but are worth it!
