? on baby turtle shells

assuming that my baby RES are completely healthy and get enough UVB lighting and calcium, how long will their shells be soft for? they are only 2 inches right now.

They shouldn`t be soft now. A turtle`s shell doesn`t harden until it`s about a year old. The shells of even hatchings, however, should be firm to the touch, not soft at all.

What kind of UBV light are you using? How is calcium being provided in their diet?

mine are never hard is that good or were they supposed to be hard at one point

My vet told me today that they need the powder calcium with the D3 and no phosphorus everyday until they are atleat 4 inches. My turtles shell is getting much better and is almost normal again.

can i feed my turtles cuttlebone as a calcium suplement? or should i used powderd calcium?
