do red ear sliders need to be out of the water

i have 2 turtles and my tank is filled with water to the top. I wanted to know if it just needs to be filled half way and put rock or something so that they can rest and get out of the water?someone help me please!!

You HAVE to put a place for them to bask, or they might develop shell rot. They need a place completly put of the water where they can climb out of and dry them,selves off. Also on top of this basking spot, u should put a basking light on top to make it warmer.

I have also read that by drying their carpace..(is the spelling right)...their bottom shell they can get rid of various parasites etc that they might pick while walking on the floor of the tank in the water..

Plus the shell rot..

You need to provide a basking light for warmth, yes, but if it only gives off UVA rays, you also need to get a UVB light and use them together. (There are also combination UVA/UVB lights called mercury vapor lights; they are expensive, but I`ve been told they work well.)
