Hi all! I'm new here. Love this site!! I have 2 RES girls "Mellow" and "Molly" ~ both 4 years old. Has anyone heard of a slider squirting water out of their nose when they eat?? Mellow just started doing this a few days ago. Once in awhile, right after a hand fed bite, water comes squirting out of her nose!! Is this normal??

Yea!! I just found the answer and YES it IS normal! whew ~ seems its called neustophagia and has to do with foraging for food (like a Baleen whale does) its a filtration process. The turtle skims the water with lower jaw, ingesting small floating particles along with water, stores the food in it's pharynx, closes it's mouth and forces the water out through its nostrils!!! REALLY fun to see~~glad it's a normal thing~:)
