i was in las vegas this weekend at the Flamingo and saw a RES about the size of a size 5 women\'s shoe basking on a rock in a koi pond...the thing is there was no sun in the wild life area & the temperature must\'ve been no higher than 70 with a cold breeze blowing...i was wearing a dress & i was freezing standing there watching him...i was under the impression that RES needed warm water? but this one seems to be doing well in the cold water.

Hi,

Reptiles are cold blooded creatures ,which means their blood temp will mimic the surrounding temperature and if it gets too cold their body temp drops...unlike mammals they cannot burn more energy to keep themseleves warm ....hence the need to keep the surrounding temperature acceptable...

This is my understanding....please let me know if i am wrong..
