Hi. My son-in-law found the little guy below in a fountain that he was servicing at work (in Central Florida). He suggested that it was a YBS. However, photos of YBS and Penninsular Cooter hatchlings look so similar to me, that I suspect it could be a Penn. Cooter.

He's about as big as a half dollar and seems very inquisitive.

Thoughts?

That is not a Yellow Bellied Slider.
Yellow Bellied Slider hatchlings have usually much lighter green base color as well as larger yellow marking behind eyes.

My bet is on Peninsular Cooter.
Signature double “Y” marking on top of head/neck is very clear.
My second candidate was Florida Red Bellied Cooter but my money is on Peninsula Cooter from the “Y” marking on head and carapace patterns.

Can you take a picture of bottom side of plastron?
Peninsula Cooter usually has plain yellow plastron without any marking or spots
Florida Red Bellied Cooter usually yellow-orange plastron with some markings
