Is a basking light different from the ordinary bulbs in my tank lid? They are not flourescent lights.
Also is it necessary to trim very, very long toe nails from my red earred slider? Or even possible?

wellp.. I don\'t know about the toe nails. I know males are supposed to be longer than female\'s, but I\'ve not heard anything about trimming them.

The basking light in my tank is a heat bulb that emits UVA rays. they\'re generally found in some sort of spotlight form. turtle\'s also need UVB rays though, so I\'ve got another flourescent bulb that emits UVA and UVB rays. You just have to make sure there\'s no glass or plastic between the light and the tank, or the UV rays won\'t actually get to the turtle.

Hope I helped a lil at least :)

I don\'t think it\'s a good idea to trim the nails.

I took our forest turtle to the vet and they trimmed her toenails. She kept scratching my daughter and she was apprehensive about picking her up. It only cost $10. Good luck!
