Merry Christmas everyone.

I have been told by someone that my Tortoise may in fact be a Turtle!!!

I inherited a little friend from someone yesterday and I need your expertise. The previous owner did not know her species or age as she inherited her too. I'm fairly convinced that she has not been looked after very well thus far and I want to give her the best life possible from now on. Can anyone identify what type of tortoise (or turtle) I have so I can do some research. This is my first pet and any advice you guys have would be amazing.

It looks like an aquatic turtle of some sort. I am not sure exactly what species it is, but I would say it is possibly a type of semi aquatic box turtle.

Have a look around on the turtle species page: https://www.allturtles.com/turtle-species/

Let me know if you figure it out, would love to add the pics to the site once we know :D

Hi,
I know this is an old post but judging from color and patterns on carapace and head/neck area, I suspect it is a Three-toed Box Turtle.
I couldn’t see hind leg so well in the picture. If she has 3 nails, she is a very typical Three-toed Box Turtle.
If she has 4 nails, she could be very uniquely colored Eastern Box Turtle.
