I have a Red Eared Slider Turtle and his shell is soft in one part (not just one layer, all of the layers) is it soft shell.......... or is it just a natural growth spurt? PLEASE RESPOND!!!

I did some reading up on it and it\'s probably a sign of too little natural light or a diet problem. Try exposing him to lots of natural light during the day (UV). You can also try giving him a vitamin D supplement, and/or calcium tablets in his water. Let me know if he starts getting better.

Hi Cory! I had a similar problem with my terrapin a few years back. How old is yours? Is the softness on the edges of the shell or is it soft all over? It could be a calcium deficiency which is easy sorted by getting a good supplement to put on the food, local pet shops do a good one for lizards and tortoises etc. I had to score the meat and hide the supplement inside the cuts, she used to spit it out if she could taste it!! If in doubt though, see a vet, good luck!
