I understand that if I keep the temp between 76-80 year round my paint turtle(6 monthes old) won\'t hibernate. Is it healthly for him to not hibernate? If he doesn\'t hibernate will his lifespan be shortened? What other effects could become of this turtle not hibernating?

It\'s not unhealthy for him to not hibernate, but it\'s healthier if it does. Does that make sense? Turts will live for 20 years easily without hibernation. Research suggest hibernation is healthier b/c it stimulates their natural life cycle and it often recommended if you\'re breeding them.

If they have not hibernated, they can hibernate when they get older (if they\'re the hibernating type - I don\'t think it would be wise to hibernate southern species of turts).

Cheers,
JJ :)
