My two little girls found a baby turtle. He/she is about the size of a silver dollar and from what I have found on this site I think he is a red eared slider. My question is, should I let the girls keep it or put it back where they found it, down by the creek?

Turtles of any kind are NOT easy pets for people to have. They are very dirty, and need frequent water changes. They require a lot of serious time and money. The setup that they require is a tank, a lid, an area to bask, a heater, a filter and lighting. A bulb alone for a tank can run you anywhere from $8.00 on up, and sometimes don\'t even last a month. My suggestion would be to let it go where you found it. If you are serious about the girls getting a turtle as a pet, maybe you would be able to find one at a turtle rescue. Just my opinion of course....
