I have a new baby turtle he is about the size of a lightbulb, maybe smaller. I don\'t know what he is ( I do know it is a boy from my readig) he does look like a res but he doesn\'t have red ears but he does have a red stomach. I didn\'t see anything in the reading about what he could be so i have just been treating him like a RES. I have only had him for about a month and I need as much help as I can get. I don\'t want him to get sick and die. Any info will help. Thanks

I went to the website and he looks like he could be a flordia red belly cooter but his top shell doesnt look like that. His face looks like the hatchling picture and his top shell looks like the cooter. Think maybe he is a mix of the two?

If I understand the picture order, it seems that the hatchling will develop from the green color on his carapace (top or shell) to the reddish color of the mature turtle (color difference might be for camoflauge)
I will keep searching for a picture of both together.

His top shell looks like the red belly sideneck.
But everything else looks like the red belly cooter.
His shell is also shaped like the cooter. Theese websites are helpful.

I sent my boyfriend back to the pet store to find out more info on him. They called him a North-American red belly. but as far as a mix breed I really really really think so.
I believe that is why it was so hard to figure out what he is. He looks like a mix of the two. But he is soooooo cute no matter what he is mixed with. I am just going to treat him like a baby cooter since that is where his primary characteristix are.

That\'s not very specific, that includes all of the states with the exceptions of Hawaii and Puerto Rico, Oh well, he\'s a cooter anyway:D

I thought my RES was mixed with a painted *because it has yellow spots instead of red* but its a RES nonetheless.
