How long since your turtle has drunk water?, any chance you can use an eye dropper to put water in its mouth?, I believe they sell those at any store with a farmacy, check in the baby section. I wonder if you can use something like gatorade for a tortoise, anyone have any idea on that?

i don't think gatorade would cause a huge problem, so long as it doesn't have a lot of sugars. i dont' have a bottle on me right now to check. but it should actually restore the electrolytes in the turtle and help it.

the water dropper is a great idea too stray.

what about lettuce? do they eat lettuce? any large moist vegetable? why not soak it in water before you give it to your turtle, to give it extra nourishment?

How much salt is too much, the gatorade bottle I have says 110mg salt, 14g sugar, 14g carbs, 30mg potassium.

Not really, it gives you back all the nutrients you lose when you sweat alot, to keep you from dehydrating, it is not really sweet, and if it weren't for the different flavors it comes in, I probably wouldn't drink it, it would probably taste nasty without the flavors.

Is the turtle showing signs of dehydration? If so, try something like Pedialyte (sp?)...you can also buy specific products for turtles to replace lost electrolytes, etc. Are you sure the turtle isn't getting some water when you soak her? I wouldn't try forcing anything down her throat--too easy for her to choke. Perhaps a vet visit would be good.

i'd have to agree with mariza.. check with a vet.

a lot of animals get the water they don't drink through their food. if your turtle is a desert species.. this might be true. try feeding her veggies that are very fleshy.. grapes, cactus things like that.

My redfoot loves to drink water. He also loves to soak. I probably don't soak him enough, but he always puts his head down and takes a nice long drink while he soaks. Are you sure that yours isn't drinking while soaking? Mine also loves when I wet the vegetables before putting them in.

Just a thought........I have 50 plus turtles, and have had many box turtles and tortoise's. How many times can you honestly say you have seen your turtles drink water??? Yet we know they must drink. as long as he can get to water, I wouldn't worry, unless he's stopped eating as well.

It takes indivisuals to make up a large number, if I don't pay attention to each turtle, there would be no large numbers, It may not be one on one, but I do try to keep tabs on all. I have 26 babies in one tank in the house. I noticed one not looking as chipper as the rest I pulled him and set him in a sick tank, the next day 2 more were basking more than normal, so I pulled them. I'm happy to say they are all doiing fine. I still have them in the sick tank, but they will go back soon. If I hadn't noticed them they would be dead today. They were very weak,When I first found them, and became limp, they couldn't keep there little heads up, they had been eatting, but stopped, there skin turn a grayish color.I thought I had lost them, they looked like there was no life in them at all,but there little eyes would look up at me. I can't say for sure what caused it, but I think they may have over heated, our weather went from 75 to 103 and is still 103....I just slowly cooled them down and changed there lighting to a "Repto -Glo 5.0 " only. I am no master, or even close, just lucky..LOL Sorry for the long post, But I do look at my turtles as indevisuals, and also as a team...Cause they will team up on you...LOL
