Anyone have one? I will prolly be adopting a 15 year old Snap this weekend ...I know NOTHING about them ....although i am still not sure on the kind of turts i may be getting, i have a feeling one is a snapping turtle by its boxy frame (memory going back 5 years ago)...This one was in captivity for 15 years in a 10 gallon tank w/ no basking lights, dock or antyhing ......NO DRY LAND....any suggestions would be helpful! ...the other turtle is a painted caught 3 years ago (i think)
Thanks Chrissy

a 15 year old snapper in a ten gallon tank? Impossible simply put, At age 15 a snapping turtle should be aroun ten or 12 inches which is as big as a tne gallon tank. That turtle is not a snapper it is probably a loggerhead musk or something. If in the rare case it in a snapper and is 15 years old, you will need to get it a tank after you see its shell size and then if its 3-5 inches a 20gallon long would be fine. ten gallons per inch seriously doesnt apply to snapper\'s *think what you want but when you have had 17 of them you tend to learn* so judge by shell size and rosie reds for turtle food. Cheapest food you can find if you want pellets.

Come to find out that neither one of these turtles are snaps...(i kept sending the guy pictures and he pointed out painted turtles and said they looked like his) .....and seems the guy who was going to give them to me suddenly doesn\'t want to give them up ...i feel really bad for those turtles .............But, speaking of rosie reds ...my poor turtle is so stressed out trying to catch the remainder 4 rosies that wont come from behind the rocks :( ...Guess it gives him something to do...

it\'s ok don\'t be sad..turtles are a big responsibility and those are old ones so they\'ll have a harder time getting used to the new environment..maybe it\'s even better for urs now..and snappers are not easy at all..

i most likely wouldn\'t keep them all together ....and the new ones would be quarantined for at least 90 days before I would even let them go near my turtle..otherwise if they were carrying a disease or sick mine could catch it :( ....you must be careful before you put a new turtle w/ the ones you already have ....i dont have a lot of room for anymore turtles ...but i would for the sake of one ...you know?.....Dixie im gonna post a picture of the \"Gold spots\"on strike a pose ....Too bad they don\'t show up w/ my cr*ppy camera phone :) Thanks everyone for your inputs!

toldya neither of them were snappers, Snappers can get to be around 4feet long and 300 pounds but those are alligator snappers, Common snappers get to be about 2feet long and 75 pounds. Lets put it this way thhey cna get as big as a German shepard and as heavy as a St.Bernard.
