I don\'t have a turtle...I have a dog!

Okay my turtle is a two year old RES with only three feet (birth defect). Ever since I got him (when he was about 2 months old) he constantly comes to the side of the tank and begs for food. After one year he even began to hold his mouth open, stretching his neck up! Now as I am replying to some pos...

Re: doesn\'t stay level when swimming

I agree its probably the respitory problem. Try covering the whole tank and all with a blanket (leaving only the sunlamp exposed) and turn up the heat. I\'ve found this really helps get the temperature above the water warm.

Re: All he does is sunbathe...?????

How\'s the water temp and the air above the water? Just a suggestion, try putting a blanket or soemthing over the top of half the tank (away from the lamp) and see what that does. It\'ll get the heat up just above the water. Is he eating okay?

Re: Behavioral Changes...strange...!! Help!!

I have a two year old male RES. Mine use to hit the filter all the time just when he\'s begging for food or what not so I found this nifty plastic thing at the pet store that fits in my 20gal tank that lets water go through and all but not him. Unfortunaly I dont think it helps too much with the fil...

Re: HELP! Sandy won\'t eat still!

I had the same problem with my RES. He is about two years old and up until about three months ago was eating the pellet food (going bonkers over the shrimp treats) but then he just suddenly stopped. I was about to take him to the vet when I decided to give crickets a try. He eats them right up. My s...

Re: Sand??

I\'ve found that sand is better overall, especially the calcified sand as my red ear slider eats it and since it\'s 100% calcium its all good! I do agree, however, that the sand is very hard to keep clean. When I do a total tank clean I shovel the sand out into a deep, rectangular, tubberware and ju...

Sand cleaning!

Does anyone know a good method for cleaning sand?!? I have white calicfied sand in my tank and it can get very dirty. So I usually spoon it out (a slow process) into a tupperware contaniner and run hot water over it, shaking to let stuff float to the top that I Can strain off. But is there an easier...

shivering?

I have a red eared slider that is almost three years old. SOmetimes he will get up beside his tank, looking out as always, and bring his front arms out in front of him like he is about to do a swim stroke but instead sort of...quivers. His two front legs just kind of move back and forth very quickly...
