Re: Turtle abuse

The feds most likely wont do anything. though the florida DNR will get them and get them good. penatlies for selling chelonians under 4 inches is severe and the DNR will make serious charges against this woman. do the best you can to save these turts. love to help. adam

UAT unidentified Aquatic Turtle

Re: Turtle dance

that is how I caught two eastern painters when i was wading in a marsh, every time i approached one on a log they zoom off. Bad idea to keep attempting. i found the best way is to sit an wait for some to swim past you. i caught 5 turts in one day with this process. the only problem is leeches, i mys...

Re: what kind am i

well, with the brief description you gave, id rule it out as a softshell, is its shell rubbery? if so then yea, your very lucky to have revived him, if you take care of him long enough he\'ll grow almost equally sized to a snapper. like snappers they have loong necks and powerful jaws, so be advised...

Re: Is this normal behaviour for young RES?

Red Ear Sliders are an aquatic turtle that spends most of its time in water. they eat in water and sleep in water. the only times they leave the water are from breeding and basking in the sun to regulate their body temps. its in their nature. RES also dont understand the boundaries that are its cage...

Re: is it ok to........

its great for killing bacteria when quaranteening a new turtle but it can be bad if not rinsed properly and can cause severe sickness, lack of eating, irritation to eyes and mortem.
love to help.

Re: What kind of plants!?!

well, to let you know, plants arent the best when it comes to turtles. the hyper-activity of aquatics (especially RES\'s) makes them very distructible. you\'ll find your self proud one day to have set-up what you think is the perfect aquarium only to wake up an see that the turtles decided it wasnt ...

Re: Softshell identity...

well there is also the western and eastern spiney softshells. these are light in shell color. identifing them as spiney softshells is to check for rough serrated-like bumps and the rear carapace (top of the shell end near the tail)

did you buy this turtle or catch it? if so where?

Re: tank size,food

5 gallons isnt near big enough for 1 baby RES. a good aquarium for the babies now is a 15-20 gallon, as they get bigger, so should their housing. as for the feeding, commercial brand pellets are ok, but a variety in diet should be applied. aquatic turtles like RES\'s love earthworms, chrickets, and ...

Re: what kind of turtle was i given

not much to description, is its shell smooth an flat and kind flexible, if so it is easily to say its a softshell. softshells are one of the fastest freshwater turtles, theyre shell can range from pastey white an pasty green. they grow rather large ( challenging even the snapper.) like the snapper it...
