Turtles shell shedding????

I have had my Paint for almost 3 years now and today is the first time I seen his shell \"shedding\"...??? The diamond shape pieces are falling off. Looks like only the top layer. His shell is hard otherwise.

Anyone else having this happening and is it normal?

I have had 10 black skir tetrs in my ank wih my paint turtle for about 6 monhes now. They are twice the size of guppies. If I put guppies in there he will eat them. Keep he turtle well fed and maybe get some fish a little larger and you should have no problems

HOPEFULLY YOU HAVE THE RIGHT LIGHT BULB BECAUSE THE SUNLIGHT COMING IN YOUR WINDOW IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH. EVERY TIME THE LIGHT GOES THROUGH GLASS OR PLASTIC IT IS FILTERED AND THE STRENGTH OF THE UVB RAYS ARE DECREASED. THIS ALSO INCLUDES TE RAY FROM A UVB BULB IF YOU HAVE A GLASS PLASTIC TOP ON YOUR...

As long as you only have your turtle and not other animals to think about you can use regular tap water. I usually have a few 5 gallon pails full sitting in my basement. The chlorine will evaporate if you let it sit. If I have to use direct tap water and dont have time to let it sit, I usually use w...

Unfortuantely I don\'t belive you can use the two words \"good\" and \"affordable\" in the same sentence about a filter. There is not one that exists. I used a duetto 100 filter for awhile in a 20 gallon tank. It worked ok. COsts about 20.00. I now have a fluval 304 costs about 9...

Re: Submersable or Cannister?

Go with Fluval 304 or 404 canister.....not the Fluval 3 or 4 submersible. you will have to pay more, but you will be happier with it and in the long run you will have a filter theat is cabable of a larger tank.

I use the 304

You can leave your turtle alone for a week or even longer if you do a few things. Make sure that food is available. 1)Feed the turtle loads of food just before you leave 2)Put aquatic plants in the tank before you leave 3)I put ghost shrimp and guppies for him to eat also. This way he has alot of fo...

Duetto 50 or 100 will work well in that little bit of water. They are cheap and don\'t work well in a larger tank. So it is a temporay solution your your tank now. When you get a bigger tnak down the road you will have to get a different one, Good Luck Link http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...

I keep hearing that the Fluval is hard to clean, but I don\'t see what is so difficult about it.

1 turn off
2 shut hose valve off
3 disconnect hose valve
4 pick up canister and take to a sink
5 disasemble and clean
6 put back together
7 re attach hose valve
8 turn on

The only thing you can do is take the cover to a glass shop and have them cut holes where the lights are going to be. This way you can keep your cover, it will look proffessional and the turtle will get the proper lighting.

Re: What filter is best????

Ireally don\'t feel that the Fluvals are hard to clean or maintain. You do have to disconnect the hoses, but there is a shut off valve. Then take the entire unti to a sink and clean out. Seems easy to me, but I have not had other filters to compare
