Re: what do you use for a waterbowl?

Hi Miles & Yoda, We have two 3toed box turtle babies. So, we\'re just new to the turtle world. We bought a little water dish from the pet store that is probably about 6 inches long and very shallow. The sides have all different heights if that makes any sense. I think we paid about $5.00 for it....

help with heat and light for box turtles

Hello, I have two baby box turtle hatchlings about the size of a quarter and the other a fifty-cent piece. We have a 20 gallon long tank and an under-the-tank heater. We also have a screen for the top. I have visited pet shops and am now totally confused about what kind of lighting and heat source w...

Re: What is a turtle that will stay small???

We just got two box turtle hatchlings for our daughter. They\'re the size of a quarter and a fifty-cent piece. I believe they stay small for a few years. They\'re land turtles and you wouldn\'t have to mess with the water. So you might want to consider a box turtle or other land turtle. Good luck in...

New Arrival(s)!!!

I told you that I would keep you posted. We just got our new arrivals by UPS today. They\'re two baby box turtles, hatched 9-3-02 and 9-21-02. They\'re REALLY small, but look healthy, they\'re moving around alot, really checking out their new home. Wouldn\'t eat, but from what I\'ve read and been to...

SAD NEWS :(

Well, I have a little girl with a broken heart. The \"rehabbed box turtle\" that was attacked by a dog, that my 8-year-old daughter was going to get from the pet store was reclaimed by it\'s previous owner. They did have another one when we were there, but it is now sold. I have checked al...

Re: still more questions before we decide

The pet store is giving her the turtle free since it was a rescue turtle, if she can provide all the proper things to house and care for it. That\'s what she\'s been saving her money for. My concern is that the turtle not be sickly and break her heart. I guess that\'s why all the questions about wha...

Re: still more questions before we decide

Thank you again for your help :) I am concerned though about the shell. The turtle was mangled by a dog and they said the shell is growing back, but around the edges in two places, it\'s not all there. Also, there\'s spots on the top that don\'t look just right. I don\'t remember the shell being sof...

still more questions before we decide

Thank you Turtlecrazed for your helpful responses to my last questions. I have more questions for you and/or anyone else who may be out there :) My 8-year-old daughter is saving her money for all the supplies for this box turtle that the pet store is offering her...the turtle was attacked by a dog a...

Re: doing my homework first

Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate your imput on this :) The way I understood it, this wasn\'t a wild turtle, but someone had previously kept it as a pet and a dog got ahold of it. The owner took it to the pet store to see if they could help it and he didn\'t want it back then. They\'re o...

Also I commend you for doing your homework first. Too many turtles are bought on a whim and then mistreated or not cared for properly.

doing my homework first

Hello, This is my first time here. My 8 year old daughter has her heart set on a box turtle. The pet store has a rescued one that was tore up by a dog, they have taken care of it for 3 months and said she could have it if we get all the housing, etc. that it would need. We know NOTHING about turtles...
