Re: Do they make vacation feeders for RES?

I don\'t know if they make food dispensers for turtles. It\'s a good idea though. The risk of death for two days is probably 0. Turtles can go for long periods without eating and some people leave that long between feedings anyways. Yours should be fine when you are gone. What fish do you have, feed...

Re: Turtle newbie

Welcome to All Turtles! Caring for a RES is fairly simple, once you have all of your stuff. Here is some basic information on turtle care: The first thing you\'ll need is a tank if your not planning to keep them outside in a pond. I think the minimum sized tank for two adult RES is 55g. Legnth is al...

Are you sure he/she will not be able to escape from the kiddie pool? Are you planning to have it as a temporary setup just for summer? You can buy one of those black, plastic pond shapes at garden supply stores and pile brick or stone slabs around it for a more natural look. If you do get the kiddie...

How did you come up with your turtle\'s name?

I thought there were some pretty interesting names out there and I got a little curious...so, what\'s the story, behind the name?
(I named mine after famous, retired whales from seaworld...I don\'t know why)

It\'s unlikely there\'s a uvb bulb already in there since fish don\'t need uvb rays. When you decide to purchase one, look for ZooMed (also called Reptisun) brands because they are considered the best. Make sure the fixture is at least 12\" away from the basking area, with the bulb mentioned ab...

The best thing to do would be to remove the hard part on one side first, then break off a chunk of it. You can just let it float in the water, they should be able to get small peices off if they want to.

You will, eventually, need a larger tank and a filter. Pond snails are good for keeping algae off the glass but don\'t buy the expensive ones becauseyour turtles will probably end up eating them anyways. Good luck!

I\'m not sure what to make of this, but it sounds like Metabolic Bone Disease which is very common amoung turtles. Both of my painteds lost the very tip of their tail but they\'re perfectly fine and it\'s hardly noticable. How big is your RES? How much of the tail is missing? The turtle tank neutrilizer, it is for 20g of water right? For the amount of water in your tank is probably not to the 10g point...it\'s really to much for your tank. Next time get a hammer, put the turtle block in a plastic bag (turtle block not the turtle!) and give it a good whack. Put in small p...

Hi, the loss of appitite could be 1 of many things. Check the temp in the tank. Is it 75-80 degrees? This is the best temp to keep the tank at. Did you switch the food you were giving him/her. Is this a new turtle, or did you recently get a new tank mate for him/her? As for the scratched shell, poly...
