Thanks. Survivor has been upgraded to a 55 gallon tank for almost a week now. I have not been able to decorate that tank as of yet. There is only the ZooMed Turtle Dock (which a piece broke off after 4 days of use) and a completely nake bottom. Of course there is a UVB Light (Reptisun 10.0), a filte...

Hope you feel better. How did you get bitten? Was it from handling your RES? A lot of people have said that the bite does hurt. I still havent experience this with Survivor yet and that's probably because I have only started seriously taking care of it for the past month. He's doing good although I ...

SURVIVOR'S TANK AND SELF PORTRAIT

I finally got my digital camera back and I've taken some pictures of himself and his tank at your disposal. I'm planning to upgrade his tank to a 55 Gallon tank. Not a bad deal I found on eBay for $30. Just need to pick it up. Still kind of concern about his shell coloring. Looks off. Either I'm par...

so it's party time for survivor :D basking time, hmm that's interesting. can't u just keep it on all the time? u never know when he feels like basking :) As much as I would like to make up for his hours in basking (since he really hasn't for the past decade), too much of anything is never good. Thi...

Yeah. My tank is already setup where the ReptiSun 5.0 is above Survivor's basking platform. I just wanted to know if water filtered a certain amount of UVB rays because I turn the light on sometimes when I'm cleaning out his tank and I was wondering if he was also getting the UVB rays that way. As f...

Another question I have is does water block UVB rays? If so, is there an estimate percentage? Do RES have to be dry to absorb it? I've heard that UVB can penetrate into about 3 feet of water but I'm not sure.

Thanks Dixieee. I hope you're right that there isn't anything to worry about. There is no doubt that Survivor is over 10 years olds. He is one tough turtle. Kind of proud of him and mad at myself a little every time I think about how he lived against all the odds for so long. I guess when I saw all ...

Today, I've actually seen how Survivor goes up to his basking platform. He does use the 3 1/2 inch ramp although it's quite small for him. He seems to struggle a little but manages to get up there by putting his other hand on the upper half of the ramp. My main concern as of now is his shell. Since ...

REPTISUN 5.0: UVB LIGHTING

I use a All-Glass Deluxe Full Hood for my tank and I bought the ReptiSun 5.0 Fluorescent light for it. I carefully broke off the splash guard. What I'm wondering is will the ReptiSun be effective in transfering UVB to my turtle? The distance between the dock and the ReptiSun is about 6inches away. A...

Thanks for the advice. I'll wait out for the few weeks and hopefully he won't be as aggressive. As for the lizard liner, I guess I'll get some rocks as well and use that to hold down the liner. I bought it so no point of it going to waste. As for the ramp, I was kind of upset when when I heard about...

Turtle Behavior: Issues In Concern

As some of you might know, I have recently changed a whole new lifestyle for my 11-12 years old RES (male). I decided to spice up the his new home by covering the 29G tank with a background. However, now the RES seems to be fighting himself a lot by thinking there's another RES that's trying to take...

So happy that you decided to improve your turtles life. I think it's funny how sometimes parents give animals as gifts expecting their kids to take care of them. It sounds like your grandma was one up on most and expected to get it back. Smart lady! Just one thought on your tank setup- you sa...

Hi Ocean. I'm new to the forum as well. When you meant the market, did you mean a pet store, a fish market, or the stores that sell everything that attracts tourist? Although I am not sure exactly what kind of turtle you are talking about, in Chinatown, there are many stores where they sell illegal ...

Just Introducting Myself

Hi. I can't really say I'm new to raising RES but I never knew much until I started googling and found sites like this one. I must say I have learned a lot by using this site. I have showed some serious neglect for my RES for over a decade unfortunately. I received my first and only RES that was giv...
