unless ur 100% sure ur female is able to drop eggs dont use sand its one big pain in the ass, but if its for breeding then just monitor it a lot and never thought that sand for the land reptiles can be used in water but i wouldnt do it play sand thats filtered is best

be weary of them "turtle docks" i got one and after use it seemed to fall apart /disinagrate and it isnt good for med /large turtles doesnt float too good ya know

um...rule of thumb i belive is the water height should be about or the same as the length of the turtles shell

i have a 55 gal w/ about8-9 inches of water,hope that helps

i have 2 res both are 4 years plus ( male is 4 female is 5) ive been wondering if i could get another baby turle and be ok w/ the other 2....could i mix breeds....such as a painted...or cooter the baby size would be 1-2 inches maybe more not bigger than the ones now which are both about 5-6 inches s...

just as the description says....

what brand, uvb/daylight/etc, price

im looking to get another bulb sooner than later....just would like to know what some feel to be the best, or some suggestions?

well i had an idea to get as many aquatic and land turtle tank/setups.....id like to do this b/c finding ideas for tank design is one of the most difficult things to do..maybe it would make some peoples life a bit easier? can we get some ideas.....maybe host it at photobucket or someother place w/ t...

hey bud read the packaging one more time if its the zoo med brand read it once more....if not i seen a simalar product in my local petco and it says UNDER TANK HEATER ! it goes under the tank on the bottom outside glass....

its a crappy camera phone and at the time it was ( no filter) we hooked the new one up after the pic(penn plax cascade 1000) and a duetto 100

hopfully ill find the dig cam and get better ones

if they are babies, yes. ( fish, frogs, newts, etc) Anything else will eventually become food.....for a larger turtle....about 2-3 years ago i had a 10 inch Pleco/suckerfish/alge eater and my 2 turtles ate him.....and thats is when the RES's were only 1-2 years old so in short...if u have small ones...

if the turtle is big enough try some rodie reds, comet feeder fish.....crickets....as for other i use the reptomin floating sticks made by tetra.....its a pretty decent food so ive been told !

all i do is shake the container and the swim right up to me and its like they are trained by the sound !

i finally finished my new set up.....a 55 gallon tank....2 15inch (uvb, and a daylight one) strip lights one spot light for basking 100 w....basking area is 1.5 feet long and the width of the tank it is composed of sand gravel mix(nesting)...some gravel on topto kepp some sand out of the water...fil...

i just got the penn lax or w/e its called the 1000 its 100 gph....its the same as the fluval but a little cheaper....it came w/ a few dif spraying accseories it was 100$

just a heads up thoses twisted style users or wanting to get one....they (the Compact fluroseccent), twisted bulbs DO NOT GIVE OFF HEAT only an incandessant buld will give off heat the compact fluros/cfl's do produce some heat but not enough !

i think i have my plan down as of now.....im going to keep the 2 RES in the 55 gallon....but i am going to raise the basking spot and make the basking spot a nesting site......hopefully the width of the tank and about 1-1.5 feet long.....and that will be composed of a sand,soil, and moss mix, i am h...

the tetra viquarium.....i have it and im going to place bricks to hold a wall and fill that area in w/ sand/soil mix.....and it says u need to fill it w/ 25 lbs of gravel but it would be sand /soil mix....will they both be ok together....even if shes may be nesting

i am going to make a nesting area as my basking area....and i was wondering if it would be alright for the 2 turtles to be together.....what happends if she does lay eggs would my male try and disturb her during the laying process...b/c they are a great pair and i can avoid the sepration it make it ...

i am thinking about geting a wall to retain about 8-10 inches of soil/sand mix as my basking area.....for my female in my 55 galon tank....im hoping to get the fluval 204-304 or w/e by this weekend and hopefully do it then.... my 20L will hopefully be converted into a full aquarium w/ outof tank bas...
