Well, I haven't had the pleasure of being bitten yet, so, I'll try to avoid that! I wouldn't want my finger to go through what their feeder fish do!

Well, I find their scutes all over the tank, mostly in the rocks. It's a little translucent square that feels like a fingernail.

Hi there New Mommy!

First off--congrats on your new edition! Turtles are so cute! Unfortunately, I didn't have any sort of issues like that. My turtles took a little bit before they ate, but I think it's a new environment that is throwing her off. I would just give the turtle some time, she'll come around! Congrats aga...

I don't think it's fungus. My turtles never appear to be sick or infected while it is going on. Plus, it happens at around the same time they loose some scutes (shell tiles). It means they are growing. I think if it was fungus, your turtle would appear or act sickly.

Well, thank you for letting me know that mine aren't the only ones! I will have to try to pet them and hold them a little more. I think I am a little put off by it and a little scared they will clamp down on a finger. Does it hurt when they nip? I can't imagine it being too painful.

Dock Eating

Well, I'm glad so many other turtles are doing this. Well, not glad, I just don't feel so alone now! My Bob and Chloe had their docks for a while before they started knawing on them. I wasn't sure if they were ingesting the foam, but I didn't want to take chances. I bought them a little "Flintstones...

Hissing...Are They Mad at Me?

Ok, so, everytime I clean out their tank, my turtles hiss the entire time they are out of the tank. When I pick them up to get them out, they hiss at me. I can only assume that this isn't good. My cats hiss when they are mad, so that is what I am relating it to. Does anyone know if they are really m...

Turtle Skin

Hey, I know it looks weird, but my turtles do that a lot. They are just molting. It's kind of like when a snake looses its skin. Everything will be ok! :D

Turtle Dance

I am really glad to hear that the little thing they do with their flippers may actually be good! I thought they did that when they were mad at each other. Does anyone know how old Red Ear Sliders have to be before they can mate? Just curious. Thanks!
