Stick on Heaters?

Hi! The woman at PetCo sold me one of those stick on heater pads for my RESs. After I brought it home I noticed that is says it shouldn't be used on tanks with water in them. Is this true? Does anyone use this kind of heater? It seems like this would be the easiest way to heat the tank, any suggesti...

Fighting Turtles

The females are about 4" long...if that. The little guy is smaller. I have a 30x20x15 tank. I'm not sure how many gallons it is...I bought it as a set. I fill it half way and I use my little 5 gallon (geeze..I think it's a five gallon) tank to fill it and I have to dump water into it three times. (i...

Hhhmmm....Well...it's the female biting the male so that rules out the mating ritual right? The tank is plenty big so I would hope that it's not territorial. I'll have to keep my eye on them and if it happens again I'll have to take her out for a little wile. Since there's two females and one male I...

Please Help I'm worried!!

Kauai (RES) keeps biting little Oahu's leg!! She's twice his size and he's not doing anything wrong as far as I can see! I'm afraid she's really going to hurt him! She chomps down and doesn't let go...I have to knock her off. Why is she doing this? Is it normal? How can I stop it? Maui (Female RES) ...

Three Strange RES Questions!

Hi Again! Okay, so I just put a 75W spot light on my three turtles. I get TONS of sunlight in my place and the guy at the pet store said that I don't have to worry about light 'til the winter. I've had them since May, so this is the first time they're getting light from a bulb. They spend more time ...

The Three Amigos Are Doing Great!

So, after three months I finally got a handle on the cloudy water! I was using this "Turtle Clean" stuff in the water, it was supposed to break up food and poop. It just made the water cloudy, so I got rid of it. I got better filter media, one that picks up fine particles. I also add "Acurel F" with...

Male or Female?

The can't get pregnant until they're around 5 years old. Female RESs cheeks are more orange, the male is red. Males are smaller and have longer claws.

Fish Cloudy Water Stuff Okay For RESs?

For some reason my tanks water is always cloudy. I bought the tank and the filter together in a set. I have no gravel on the bottom. I have some fake plants and a floating rock. I changed (almost all) the water on Monday. I constantly fish out poop with a net. I ususally feed them out of the tank. I...

RES babies bite and eat like PIGS!

Okay guys, don't laugh. I have three baby RES's. The two females are about 2 1/2 - 3 inches round. The little guy is about half that. When I take them out of their tank and put them in their feeding dish they go crazy! The big one (Maui) is climbing out of the dish grabbing at the bag with the food ...

Hi Guys! Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I checked the underside of my turtles like you suggested. There doesn't seem to be "fat" coming out of the holes. It looks like there is when the inhale, but not all the time. I didn't feed them all of that stuff all the time, I'd switch it up....

Chubby RES babies?

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the board and an new turtle owner!! I "rescued" three baby red eared sliders from someone who wasn't taking care of them. When I got the tank, the water was actually THICK because he threw so much food in it so he could go on vacation for ten days!! Poor little guys! :( There...
