The water has been cloudy for a couple of weeks now. I've done partial water changes & that hasn't helped. I don't want to empty all 45-gal of water, but if I need to then I will. I rinsed off debris from the filters to see if that would help, but it's the same. I've checked the levels too & everthi...

8) Aren't these turtles just the greatest? I love my RES! We call him Hercules. I guess he adopted us. He was a tiny little turt, barely fit in the palm of my hand & he somehow made it to our garage from 'who knows where.' The nearest "cow tank" is a good distance for us humans. Can you imagine how ...

:!: when Hercules was itty-bitty, we put snails in the tank, but they died. I think he ate some of them. The others may have died from shock...who knows. Just kidding! It was suggested that I put the gravel back into the tank. I took it out because it was such a mess. Any opinions on this one?

 Well, let me tell you what I found out. Marineland told me this particular pump wouldn't work for what I need it for because I'm not filling my tank up (75-gal, Hercules would drown!!!) so he suggested a submersible pump, which I have. It's not cutting it. So many people have given me such go...

Yeah, beneficial bacteria is called beneficial bacteria for a good reason! My turtle doesn't seem unhappy, but I think he would like it if it was clear so he can see me smiling at him!

FIGURED IT OUT!!! We have a good idea as to why the water is cloudy. When we did a full tank change, we cleaned the entire tank & scrubbed the bottom. :!: By doing that, we scrubbed out all the beneficial bacteria. Not very smart, huh? It just hit me!! Ok, with that said, how do I rebu...

Yeah, at this point, money isn't an object. I will say that I've never had a pet that cost so much money to keep. :) But I do love my little guy so only the best for him. Thanks!!!!!

Which canister filters would you recommend? I've considered buying a 2nd submersible filter to work with my Fluval 4 Plus. Any opinions?? I'm very OPEN for them. :D

Cloudy Water

I need help with clearing the water. 75-gal tank with about 45-gal of (bottled) water. Using Fluval 4 Plus submersible pump with special carbon filter pads in between 2 foam pads. I do not change filters when doing a full tank water change. Levels (pH, alkalinity, etc) are within range, including am...

Cloudy Water

I need help with this. I use a Fluval 4 Plus (submersible) for my 75-gal tank with about 45-gal of (bottled) water. The filters are not changed with water changes. They are "clean" & I have 1 carbon filter pad placed in between the 2 foam pads. Still the water is cloudy. I test the water frequently ...

Follow up to my previous reply:
The Emperor 400 won't work unless the tank is filled with water. Not ideal for turtles, but perfect for fish aquariums. I spoke to a rep from Marineland this morning & that's what he told me.

I did that. I filled up the filter box with water before starting it. The girl from PETsMART told me to keep pouring water in until it starts on its own. I did that & it STILL didn't work. I had a much smaller version of this pump for a 30-gal I had & it didn't take this much effort to get it starte...

I bought the Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel Filtration System this weekend. I took the first one back to PETsMART & they gave me another one, but it's still not working right. I followed the instructions, took it apart to check for debris & make sure all parts were there, and kept trying. The intake tube is ...

:!: Wow! That's so funny! My RES was biting his dock too! My reaction was to call him a little turd too!! The bottom is sometimes slimy & food gets stuck underneath it. He usually finds it later for a midnight snack, but that could be causing his water to get icky too!

I have a Fluval 4 Plus submersible pump. It seemed to be working, but now I'm not sure. I bought it because Fluval is highly recommended. I recently purchased a Marineland Emperor 400, also highly recommended, but I haven't been able to get it to prime.

Filtration System

I'm new to this chat/forum thing. I need advice on a Marineland Emperor 400. I can't get it to prime! The girl from PetSmart told me "it's normal" for the pump to make this loud mechanical noise  , but it doesn't sound right. The intake tube is submersed at least 5 inches into the water. I hav...

8) I'm new too! I have 1 red-eared slider (RES) & his name is Hercules. He's the coolest! But he's unhappy because the landlord is having difficulty with the filtration system.
