Resputin update

I posted a while back about a turtle I rescued and name Resputin. The turtle had gashes on her head, neck, and chin. She also had a large fracture across her shell, dents, and white spots. She had takena four story fall. Plus she was underweight and took 11 days before she first pooped. Well, after ...

Thanks

He is a very happy turtle now, and well on his way to health. The family never even came to ask about him. They don't care anyway.

My turtle (who I have now had for 11 days) pooped for the first time today. He's rather large, so his poop is too. I figure that since he hadn't eaten in a long time before I got him, it took a long time for him to fill up enough to form feces. Since he started this morning, he has gone several time...

Overweight Red Footed Tortoise

My red footed tortoise, Aesop, has recently had trouble sticking his head in. Last summer when I took him to the vete after noticing sickness since I had received him (about 2 months), he weighed 200 grams. It turned out he was full of parasites. By the end of the summer, he was at a healthy weight ...

Healing or infection?

My new found RES (Resputin) has a major fracture across his shell. He also has a lot of scabs and wounds on his head and neck. Anyway, the vet gave Resputin a bunch of shots to help with any infection and some medicines for home. His blood work was ok, but considering how open his fracture is, the d...

I'm having trouble figuring out what to feed my new RES too. He's about 10 inches long (maybe even 12) and always begs. He is on a lot of antibiotics, so I was worried his appetite would be affected. Instead, he just begs all day long. I give him pellets and floating greens. He inhales anything I pu...

The kicker is that they knew he had fallen off the balcony, and they left him where he was. He was abandoned and bleeding. If they had wanated him, they would have taken him when he fell and at the very least put him back where he belonged. Also, he was malnurished to begin with.

Resputin is back home!

So I took Resputin to the vet today. As I left school a little girl came up to me and asked if I was holding her turtle. I told her I had found him outside and kept going to my car. So she said, "was he bleeding a lot? Cause our turtle was bleeding a lot." This comment disturbed me. She said, "He fe...

My redfoot loves to drink water. He also loves to soak. I probably don't soak him enough, but he always puts his head down and takes a nice long drink while he soaks. Are you sure that yours isn't drinking while soaking? Mine also loves when I wet the vegetables before putting them in.

Well, I think I will name the little guy Resputin. He survived a lot-- much like Rasputin, but he is a RES so Resputin fits better. Anyway, while feeding him just now (can I feed him too much? He's just so hungry) I noticed he has a big cut under his chin. It is scabbed over and the scab is beginnin...

Well, the little guy is still with us. He does have a rather nasty looking crack on his shell near his tail. I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow to have a look at him and see what we can do. What does shedding scutes involve? He is still eating healthily, and he even took a couple of pieces of carrot...

My two tortoises were named by my first grade class about two years ago. Speedy is the Greek tortoise (actually is pretty fast), and Aesop is the red footed tortoise. Aesop was so named because the class had just read the tortoise and the hare when we bought him. We also had a second Greek tortoise....

My red footed (Aesop) hisses all the time. He sounds like he is inhalin sharply. He also breathes very loudly. I've never heard the vocalizations recorded there, but playing them just now really upset my cats.

Found turtle. Help please!

This morning one of the security guards at my school handed me a box with a turtle in it. I work at a school in the heart of Chicago, miles away from any parks, streams, or ponds. There are barely any trees. Anyway, this turtle was hiding under his car and then moved out and started crossing the str...
