I\'m glad you are able to keep him. It is unfortunate that many people feel this way about all animals (& humans). At least with this little one, you have helped a little....

Re: What size of rocks should I be using

I don\'t use anything on the bottom of all my tanks either. I have gift wrapping paper that I have lamintated, and then used a spray adhesive to adhere it to the underside of the tank. Now it \"appears\" to have rocks on the bottom & looks great! You can see the paper here: http://pic2.picturetrail....

You should steer clear of spinich. Try romaine or red leaf lettuce. No Iceburg lettuce or broccli either. Collard, turnip & dandelion greens are good for them also.

you cannot actually post a picture here, but you can put the address of the picture. If you don\'t have a place to put it, go to either webshots or picturetrail.com - you can put it there, and put the address on here.

I have a Diamondback & a Painted together with no problems at all. I introduced them slowly - putting them together only for a few minutes several times a day - then an hour. They have been together now for almost a year now.

I would dry tank her even at night til she is healed. Just make sure you check on her during the night in case she has flipped over. I think by putting her in the water at night it is just softening the sore and therefore it is breaking back open.

When she is basking, & pulls her feet in, can you see a fat sticking out? If so, she is a overweight. I wouldn\'t feed her everyday. Try feeding her every other day, and giving her fresh greens in between. Cut back on the shrimp also to one day a week, it\'s nothing but protein which will cause rapi...

I leave my lights on for 12 hours. They get shut off and the tanks get covered for the night with black sheets. I remove the sheets at 7 a.m. and turn the lights on at 8 a.m. My turtles will not settle down until they are covered for bedtime.

Try feeding him some shrimp. Raw, not cooked - just a little though, as it is protein. He is just scared - he will eat eventually.

The oily film you are talking about is from the top of the water not being aggitated. Try moving your filter so it moves the surface of the water and you won\'t have this film.

No, not if you rinse it real well. I very rarely have trouble with green water, although I do a partial water change in all 4 tanks ever single day. In my 100 gallon I take out about 1/4 of the water, and in the others 1/2. I just think it keeps the tank fresh - so they aren\'t swimming in their toi...

RES is \"Red Eared Slider\". They usually don\'t like veggies & fruit til they are older, but you should still offer it anyway. I always leave a Romaine or Red Leaf Lettuce floating around in their tank just in case they want to nibble.

Gravel is not a good idea at all. Turtles have been known to eat it and it causes problems. Use river rocks or nothing at all. It also makes cleaning the tank much easier.

That light sitting across the top is an accident waiting to happen. You need to secure it somehow.... you should remove the gravel and replace it with river rocks or nothing at all. RES are known for eating the gravel which causes a lot of problems

I think that a 10 is way to small for a 4 inch turtle. I wouldn\'t put it into anything less than a 20, and that is even small. The reason being, is most people don\'t fill the tank up to the top with water, so in reality, it isn\'t a \"10 gallon\". I know I wouldn\'t want to live in a closet.

Tell us a little more about your cleaning. When you clean your filter, do you clean EVERYTHING with tap water or water you take out of your tank? If you used tap water, it kills all of the good bacteria, which in result will make things grow faster. You should always clean the filer with water from ...
