Those little white worms generally show up when you have high nitrate levels. They themselves are harmless, but there presence mean your water is dirty. Regular gravel vacuuming keeps them away.

Hi and welcome to the board. For a ten gallon tank, he shouldn't have anything less than a 75watt basking bulb over him. Make sure it's a basking bulb (they are kinda flatter shaped and direct light directly to one spot). In addition to this, you'll want to heat the water as well. You'll need to buy...

Re: Toxic Turtles

Is it just me- or is it a pretty well-known fact that these little turtles may carry such a disease? Hate to nitpick, but just thought I'd point it out. Salmonella isn't a disease and your turtle doesn't "contract" it. It's a bacteria that's present in their feces (as well as the feces of just abou...

Don't waste money buying chemicals to adjust your PH. Turtles are so dirty that your PH level is goin to drop like a brick anyway. Not to mention, all those chemicals are powerful acids and bases. If you get the chemical on your hand it'll burn you. Do you really want to add that to your turtle's wa...

Make sure their water source is large enough (area wise) for them to wade into. Pie pans and shallow tupperware both work very well. Make sure the water is shallow so they don't drown and that the container is easy for them to get in and out of. If they don't wade at all and look like they're drying...

Partly depends on species as some species are more obvious than others. One thing to always look at is the plastron. Males usually have a more concave plastron for mounting and female's is usually more flat.

Re: New Owner Pics and Questions

Not only are turtles extremely dirty, but comets are as well! Goldfish are some of the dirtiest fish you can own. I\'m assuming you got them as feeders for your turtle, but goldfish have a tendancy to shed their slime coats (they have 2 layers, most fish have 1) which can cause the tank to become cl...

Re: Milky water 1 day afer water change.

I live in an area with very hard water. A day or two after I do a water change, the water is white like that. It\'s prolly just deposits in your tap water. In a day or two the carbon should neutralize it assuming you have a strong enough filter.
