I don't think she hurt her shell when she got stuck. That's when I noticed it. It would have been bleeding (at least a little) if that's when it happened. Don't you think? Sorry, I can't post a picture.

They need the excersize and they like them. I know it's not the best thing for them, But the other 29 days in the month I feed them sticks and fruits. and sometimes a slice of cheese :)

She's not the brightest turtle in my tank. ( ) I have a tupperware container with gravel in it for my "land", and it doesn't sit flush with the tank wall, so she was sort-of up in the air, with her belly against the tank wall, if that makes any sense. She must have just done it though, because...

Yes, I'm sure they're gone. She's not bleeding, and she's acting normal; swimming around, she ate last night. I'm going to ask my mom to check on her every couple of hours today. I can't post a picture right now, but I'm going to try to get my scanner working this afternoon.

Lights.... Again....

Ok, I know this has been asked thousands of times... But what kind of lights does everyone use? I've been using the Repti Glo 8.0 Desert Terrarium Lamp because of the high UVA/UVB output, and then just a regular light bulb for heat. Is that ok? Does anyone reccomend using like the Heat Glo, or Sun G...

Her shell is broken!

My turtle got stuck between the land and the tank wall, and when I went to put her back in the water, my sister was like "Oh my gosh! Her shell is broken!" I looked and it was. Her marginal scutes right above her tail are GONE! What should I do? I'm putting her in another tank right now!

Hot Glue in tank?

I know I've asked this before  , but I got some fishing lead weights that I'm going to hot glue into the bottom of the plant tray things. Do you think this is a good idea (using the hot glue)? My dad said that if it's not, I could just get the sealance stuff that the companies use to seal the ...

Ok; I'm back. I cleaned the tank I think the day before I left, and when I got back it was disgusting! So that's what I'm doing today... Everybody is fine, but Tina's shell is pretty soft. There's no way my mom would take her to the vet, so that's out of the question. Poor Tina.

I know I posted to some old board that I collect frog eggs, wait for them to hatch and then feed my turtles the tadpoles. Several people said that that was cruel, but I countered that I live across the street from a swamp, and that I let some of the tadpoles become actual frogs. Well this year, I ha...

Female turtles exhibiting male behavior?

I have two female yellow-bellied sliders that are a year old now. They were both at the bottom of the tank waving their 'hands' at each other. One-year-old is enough to tell the sex of the turtle right? (They both have flat bottomed shells.) I only saw it happen I think twice, but still.... Any thou...

I have a RES that I got from my sisters' teacher; She was a class pet, so she didn't get the best of care. She's about inches long. The first two turtles are about the size of a paper plate. The inside of their shells is a red color. The back end of their shell is really, really pointy and jagged. The shell itself is a brown color. We only find these turtles when it's rainy. The second turtle is way smaller; about the size of my...
