Re: GROWING RATE?

i\'m not sure if this is true but i heard that if the tank is too small, it will stunt their growth... i dont know how this conclusion was made but i think it is pretty much true... an RES of your size should have at least a ten gallon tank... maybe even bigger i dont know what size your tank is but...

Re: filters???

i use fluval submersibles which are pretty awesome...
don\'t get a filter that is made for smaller tanks just because it is cheaper... i did that and it really got worn out

Re: cleaning a rock i found

havin a clean rock is not necessarily the big idea since like shai631 said, they are made of sand and dirt
i think u should worry more about if this rock was in an area that may have had pesticides

Re: Red Earred Slider w/ other animals?

other turtles are probably the best company a turtle should have...
my turtle has attacked any other foreign animal that i put in there... fish, crayfish, etc.
so in other words, i think you should separate the animals

Re: I\'ve made a basking area

i would not paint the floating island because paint may harm a turtle... i would use a rock or something as an island or buy one of those floating islands at the pet store... they have worked pretty well for my turtle but keep in mind that it takes a couple of days for them to figure out how to use ...

my turtle really duznt like veggies, probably since it is still young... i read somewhere that younger turtles like protein pellets and feeder fish... they supposedly prefer veggies when they are older. i dont give my turtle fish everyday but i do it occasionally since the turtle catching the fish (...

heaters

hey everyone! now that winter is comin, i\'m thinkin that it is very important that i get a heater but i have some questions: should i use an under tank heater or an in tank heater? do u have any suggestions for good brands? if an in tank heater is better, wouldnt it burn the turtle if it touched it...

Re: Shell is jagged

I don\'t believe many people would abuse their turtle(s) and destroy a turtle\'s shell but if that\'s the case, you should definitely get it checked out. A turtle\'s shell is very important and of course it is 100% vital so I suggest taking it to a vet and see what they say.

I agree with l8or g8or but you should know that checking for Salmonella once, and the test results show that it is fine does not mean it cannot get Salmonella in the future.

Re: New Turtle owner

Most turtles take time to learn how to use the basking spot. It should take no more than a couple days. About the foggy water, if you mean a greenish color it should be fine. Otherwise, get a stronger filter or more than one as l8or g8or said. The water temperature should be from the high 70\'s to m...

Re: disgusted turtle....

Well if you are trying to feed the fish to the turtle, I once used a little clamp to hold on to the fish (sorry to all the fish lovers) and then I held it on the surface of the water so the turtle could catch it. Now if you want them to play with it, it depends on the turtle and if it wants to play ...

Re: Sally and Linus, Alge?

An easy solution to alge is giving it one of them UV lights. I do not think bathing the turtle is the best idea (no offense to the people who do) for it is not natural. The Uv acts as sun and should keep off alge well.

Re: Turtles

If you do not know what kind of turtle it is, definitely find out. The ramming and scratching against the tank thing is weird although happens with my turtle too. I am thinking it is because the glass reflects the turtle\'s image so he goes after it.

Re: Confused

I find that Res don\'t move around on land a lot unless they are forced to so my tank is basically all water except for a floating log. You should definitely get a UV bulb so the turtle\'s shell doesn\'t soften (which is a bad thing) and so fungus does not build up. Too bad about your turtle being s...

Re: Help

Hi, one possibility is the size of your tank. If a tank is too small for the turtle, it will simply stunt their growth. You should use those 20 gallon long tanks so they have plenty of room to swim.

Re: breeding

My brother says that you can tell if a turtle is male or female by looking at the size of the tail but I\'m not exactly so sure how it works. It is also more distinguishable when they are older. I heard that mating turtles can be very hard and you would need lots of supplies and patience. I would co...

Re: sanitation

hi, turtles can carry salmonela but i heard it is only because people give it to them by giving them raw meat (you can still feed it meat but it should be cooked or if it is a feeder fish, it should still be alive) and if you handle them with dirty hands. A suggestion is using antibacterial soap (th...

cleaning the tank

I own a Red Ear Slider and I have trouble cleaning the tank because everytime I clean it, I have to carry the tank full of water outside and pour it out (which is pretty hard and heavy work.) I\'ve heard of this thing that can suck the water out of the tank but I don\'t know what it is called. If an...
