Re: Is selling $0.25 sized RES legal?

As I understood, it was illegal to sell turtles less than 4 inches in carapace length anywhere in the United States. To check it out, go to www.austinsturtlepage.com and look at the laws they have listed there!

Thats a good question. I really don\'t know for sure, but it was my understanding that it was illegal everywere. To find out, I would suggest talking to a local Humane Society, or something like that. I don\'t know if the Humane Society has officies in Canada. You could also try the SPCA, or the Dep...

Re: food amount

Hey,
I have a question, its actually quite stupid. I know with humans, foods like fruits and veggies don\'t effect weight gain, and can be eated often. Is this true with turtles? I feed mine about a leaf of romaine a day, and they love it. Is this too much?

That\'s awesome! There should be more people in the world like you, and, well, like most of us on this site! When a baby turtle is sold to a responsible pet owner, its a wonderful thing. It\'s just sad that most of the turtles AREN\'T rescued.

You didn\'t do anything wrong...It would have been wrong if you bought the baby turtles and didn\'t take care of them. What exactly are you questioning? I have never gotten one from Turtlehomes.org. I have never adopted a turtle, but I want to sometime. That may be true, but just because it isn\'t ILLEGAL to buy them doesn\'t mean its OK. Most of the turtles bought in this way are going to end up dying, becuase most of the people who buy them don\'t take the time to become responsible turtle owners. They go along with what the vender said, which is...

If you care about animals at all, DONT BUY A BABY TURTLE. By doing that, you are supporting people who purposly breed turtles for money! If you want a turtle, I suggest finding a well established turtle shelter where you can adopt one. Please don\'t support the over population of the RES!

How Much is Too Much??

Hey! I have a feeling that the cause for the excessive shedding of Snoopy&Droopy\'s scutes is related to overfeeding them. I know that they need a varied diet. They are about 2 years old, and are about 4 inches in carapace length. I feed them about 3/4 to 1/2 of a leaf of lettuce around 4:00PM and a...

I am no expert, but I have a few suggestions. First, I would suggest taking it to a herp vet and getting it checked out, because of the state of the shell. They may also know if it is wild or not.
