Not Eating There are numerous possibilities why your turtle has either not eaten anything, or has stopped eating. Some possibilities are stress, sickness, aggressive feeding by other turtles, their habitat is too cold, incorrect dietary items, putting food in the wrong place (ie: on land for aquatic...

Re: help on choosing my first turtles

I would get one turtle to start with. Also red ear slider females tend to get larger than the males do this is generally what happens with almost all species of turtles. I have a boy(i believe) eastern painted turtle and he is rather easy to care for and stays relatively small compared to most turtl...

It sounds like an eastern painted turtle only a painted turtles shell is smooth and does not have ridges so i am not sure what kind of turtle you have.

I think it is probably an eastern painted turtle depending upon where you live. If so i found an eastern painted turtle as well last year and he is the best turtle around. Also they are relatively easy to care for. First take a look at these descriptions of different types of painted turtles on this...

I heard that spinach is bad for your turtle because it contains oxalates which block the absorbtion of calcium which is needed for the turtle\'s shell to grow properly.

My turtle loves grapes. I usually cut the grape into four pieces and put them on his basking platform. Once he sees them he takes them into the water and eats them. Just a suggestion maybe your turtle will like these.

It is usually not recommended that people use gravel with their turtles because yes it can harm your turtle. If your turtle eats the gravel it can cause an intestinal blockage which most likely will lead to a visit to the vet. I use little river stones that are about the size of a quarter. I feel th...

Re: fighting food

The rule of thumb is to feed each turtle the amount of pellets you think could fit into their head not including the neck. Once you do this if they still fight for one peice i would feed them one by one in a seperate container to make sure they all get what their supposed to get.

I know many people say this is normal so i wouldnt worry if your turtle is shy or not with time he/she will come around. My turtle always even as a baby ate his food in front of me probably because he is such a little pig.

Im not sure how those two types of turtles would react together but i know they say not to put turtles together that differ alot in size because then problems could arise. Such as agressive behavior, the smallest turtle getting cheated when it comes to feeding time, etc.

I wouldnt really worry about it. Most turtles get a little nervous when approached not only that but all turtles have their own adjusting period. They get used to you at their own pace. Give it time and maybe your turtle will become less nervous:p
