I have 5 RES. Rambo because he was the biggest (and still is) as a baby. He also knew how to escape barriers from the beginning. Smart little guy. Peewee because he was the tiny fella but not anymore! Speedy and Gonzales because they were always hanging together as babies. Dinky because I liked the ...

how long ago did you get your new friend? It might take him a few days to get used to his new environment. Don\'t force him to eat, let him come around to it on his own. Instead of pellets, try some extra smelly food like dried shrimp or salmon. I wouldn\'t feed him too much of this since they\'re f...

no really it is. if they\'re young, most likely Penny was trying it out for fun. I have 2 turtles that were zapping each other too. watch out for them though.. Penny could also be trying to show dominance.

I feed my turtles T-Rex Aquatic Turtle Dry Formula. It will float at first but when it absorbs enough water it will drop down. Are you feeding your turtle in his home? You might want to feed him in a separate container so he doesn\'t have to swim in his food debris afterwards. You can also try rubbe...

DO NOT put it in the pond. RES need temp between 75-85 to be healthy. If it\'s freezing, I\'m sure the RES will not survive a week. If they have to give it away (poor guy) have them place it for adoption. One place is here: http://www.turtlehomes.org/usa/contact_us.shtml but there are many other ado...

is the basking area big enough for 2 turtles? your other turtle might not like the basking setup, therefore is not basking. I had to force bask one of my turtles too (mostly because he was getting a soft shell) but I found that once I changed his basking area around he got to basking by himself. I s...

i worried about the same thing. I have five 6 month olds and 1 of them is still the same size as when I first bought him.
I was told by my vet that turtles grow at different rates. It also may be congenital. Don\'t worry. As long as he is eating and acting normally then he should be alright.

bring your turtle to a vet for fecal testing. this way you can be sure if it\'s a parasite issue or not.

Is the white spot silvery looking when wet? Does it look like it\'s a bubble under the scute? If so then most likely the scutes are shedding. 1 cm long? How big is the turtle? If it\'s white under water and dry then it could be early stage of shell rot. Soak your turtle in a warm salt bath for half ...

Yes, UVB light is necessary for calcium and vitamin D3 processing. Without it, they risk getting soft shell and other sicknesses. Please get a UVB bulb for your turtle as soon as you can.

Yes they can eat guppies. Get the smaller sized guppies. For treats also try dried shrimp, bloodworms, and boiled unseasoned chicken. My turtles eat dried crickets also.

What type of turtle is Leo? If you press down on his shell lightly does it feel soft? Was his whole body stuck to the filter or just his hands? I don\'t think having his hands there for a short while will be a problem unless the water intake is very strong. A prolonged stay at the filter might cause...

if your turtle is completely lethargic - not eating, not moving, not doing anything - and has been for a week, you need to bring him to a vet. Find a herp vet, not a regular animal vet. It could be worms or some type of disease that will need medical treatment. go here to find a herp vet near you. h...

Yes it\'s very important that you get a UVB bulb. UVB rays allow your turtle to process calcium which wards off soft shell disease. What symptoms does your turtle have besides being sluggish? If you think it is sick, it\'s better if you separate him from the others. Do you have a basking area for th...

What type of turtle is Frodo? Some turtles have fixed tongues and can only eat in the water. Don\'t feed him beef or pork. They contain too much fat. Don\'t forget to keep them warm. Pack in a hot water bottle or two. Others have also tried those microwavable heating pads. I personally like the hand warmers that heat up when exposed to air. Are you putting the new turtle in the same tank? Since the cause of death is unknown make sure you clean the tank thoroughly before putting the new turtle in to ward off any diseases in the living space. Wash it with 5% bleach and clean all plants/rocks.

It\'s hard to tell since all turtles have different growth rates. Is that line a measurement of the shell only? If it is, mine are about the same size as yours - 2 inches - but a bit bigger. They are 6 months old. I\'m guessing yours to be around the same.

A change in activity could mean sickness. Are his eyes swollen? Is his shell soft to the touch? Is he breathing with his mouth open? If you don\'t have one already you will need a UVB lamp. Half dollar size normally means that they are hatchlings. They still have some years to go before they can get...

turtles will grow at different rates. Since your turtle\'s shell is no longer soft and assuming it looks healthy we can nix the idea of vitamin deficiency. Just keep measuring your little one every month and hope for the best!

If his shell is very soft and he\'s not active at all, his sickness might be beyond your care. I would suggest bringing him to a herp vet immediately. He\'ll most likely need injections to start off as well as that UVB bulb.

Your filter might also not be strong enough for your tank. You want a filter that will clean 3X the size of your tank.
